I’ve been sat staring at a blank screen for about ten minutes trying to figure out how to open the first ever Indie Author Roadmap blog post. I have a notepad next to me pinpointing what I want to go through, but what to say to kick this new venture off?

Then I realised the above would be the perfe…well, perhaps not the perfect way to start, but it does illustrate something which will be a cornerstone of these blog posts and the podcast, transparency.

We will not hold anything back from you, I will quite often say exactly what I think (which sometimes lands me in trouble) but we’re not here to bullshit, or dangle a carrot in front of you with the hopes you might buy a course or pay a monthly subscription. We have neither to sell at the beginning of this journey, anyway. We’re here to help because you’ve already done/are doing the hard bit, writing that book.

You’ve chosen the road less travelled by actually finishing your book, and just achieving this is amazing. 99% of writers never get here, giving up along the way because it’s too hard, and it is. Making shit up and writing it down isn’t hard, being consistent and finishing that book, keeping at it, even when you have absolutely nothing to say, is what sets published authors apart from…errr…those people who love to tell the world that “they started writing a book once but…”

Rachel and I are published authors you’ve probably never heard of, because, well, there are a lot of us out there. Between us, we’ve written over 70 novels and novellas and I wish that was an even split but Rach has penned far more than me because I’m rubbish and she’s a scribbling powerhouse.

What we hope to achieve with Indie Author Roadmap is to build a community of new authors who are just starting out in publishing. With so much “information” out there on self-publishing it is very easy to hit a wall of overwhelm. We know, we've been there.

Indie Author Roadmap is here to give you step by step advice which we will cover in both our blog posts and on the podcast. We are not Gurus advertising the secret sauce to success, we are authors who have been doing this a while and would just love to give back to those starting out.

Being completely transparent and going that extra mile to help new authors is our mission statement.  There are enough scam publishers out there ready to take your hard earned by selling the dream of becoming a published author, but it’s really not that difficult, and a hell of a lot cheaper, to learn the skills yourself.  We’re here to help because we’ve been there at the beginning, not having a clue now that we’ve typed The End and have a finished manuscript.

As well as going though the steps to get from The End to Published, we’ll also be running a writing accountability program called Thrive in 25. This was all Rachel’s idea, she’s the writing powerhouse, I just loved the idea so much I came up with the little rhyming title. It’s nice to add value every now and then.

If you have a question surrounding writing, accountability, craft, publishing, marketing, or anything in-between please reach out. Contact us through our website, social media accounts, email, or even leave a question at the bottom of this blog post.

The podcast will be kicking off on December 27th, and we hope you’ll join us there to talk about all things Indie.

Until then, stay awesome and keep scribbling!
